"One Who Knows" - The Logo
In 2017, a charming television show aired, hosted by the character Yardena Goshen, portrayed by actress Shani Cohen. In each episode, the character hosted a different woman from history, one who made a change, left her mark, and didn't ask for permission. Leah Goldberg, Marie Curie, Queen Elizabeth of England, Sarah Aaronsohn. Women who knew.
The show was a spark for me, from which a character I created was born and named her by her simple and accurate name "The One Who Knows."
She became a platform. A voice that allows one to say what doesn't always come out easily. The idea took shape, and the character took form through a logo I drew myself: a young, opinionated, ambitious woman, her hands clasped in a posture of admonition, one who doesn't seek to explain herself. She is fashionable, accessorized, modern, and yet, it's easy to identify with her. Perhaps because she's familiar, perhaps because we have all sometimes been her.
For me, art is not just aesthetics; it is a powerful tool, a means to express and protest, to touch what hurts without breaking, and here "The One Who Knows" came into play.
On works that carried a sharp and clear message, I signed with her. I was comfortable that she was not directly identified with me. This gave me freedom. Freedom to talk about everything, without censoring, without trying to please.
Now I am revealing her.
But even now, as she stands in the light, she maintains her independence, her power; her visuality is uncompromising. Her stance is defiant, and her stroke of the pen is bold.
One can fall in love with her even when she speaks about what is difficult to hear.
Now that she is on center stage, she has taken on a life of her own.
